In the run-up to the FIFA 2018 World Cup in Russia™, the Centre for Linguistic Training of Volunteers and Auxiliary Staff based at the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Ogarev Mordovia State University supported the Volunteer project "Together to the FIFA 2018 World Cup in Russia™."
A specialised 72-hour English language programme was developed for functional coordinators, team leaders and staff of the Volunteer Centre. The group of 23 people completed the programme.
The programme focused on tourist attractiveness of Russia and Mordovia, culture differences across different countries. Particular attention was paid to business communication and etiquette, sports vocabulary, writing of formal and informal letters. These skills will be necessary for volunteers working in «Linguistic services», «Proceedings record» or «Hospitality» sections.
One of the programme’s lecturer was Heather Mello, a professor from the USA who delivered a talk on the difference between American and British English and discussed with attendees the youth culture and life of students in different countries using real-life images.
