The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Finland attends N. P. Ogarev Mordovia State University

On 2nd October the University accepted the Finnish delegation headed by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Finland to Russia Mr. Hannu Himanen. During his official visit to the Republic of Mordovia Mr. Himanen got acquainted with the research potential of the University.

Rector Sergey M. Vdovin introduced the guest to the university structure, prospects and achievements in the educational, scientific, cultural, sportive and social spheres. Mr. Himanen looked around the Exhibition Centre of the Institute of National&Folk Culture composed of handmade works crafted by students and teachers. Institute of Physics and Chemistry held the Ambassador’s attention by the first-in- Russia recently opened laboratory for thin-film coatings based on the nanotechnology of atomic-layer deposition (ALD - atomic layer deposition), equipped by the Finnish company Beneq Oy.

The Ambassador’s visit was escorted by the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Mordovia V.N. Mazov, his deputy A.V. Ivanov, the president of the University N.P. Makarkin, the Head of International Relations Office N.S. Vatolkina and the Dean of the Faculty of Philology M.V. Mosin.

University is a renowned centre for Finno-Ugric studies. Intensive collegiate and bilateral intergovernmental contacts in science, economy, culture and education allow the both sides to benefit from such collaboration that has a long historic background.
