Chinese applicants evince interest in Ogarev Mordovia State University academic programmes

On 25 - 26 October Beijing (People's Republic of China) hosted the 14th international educational exhibition China Education Expo 2014 under the patronage of the Chinese Educational Association for International Exchange (CEAIE). The exhibition was attended by more than 300 universities from 46 countries. Mordovia State University joined the Russian delegation, which was composed by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

Ogarev Mordovia State University commissioned head of International relations office Natalia Sh. Vatolkina, head of the Chair of Russian language and literature Elena A. Nikolaeva and guest lecturer, Mrs. Liu Hui to represent the University’s educational services.

China is one of the major suppliers in the international market of educational services. In 2014 over 550 thousand graduates of Chinese high schools sought for a training abroad. According to forecasts by the Ministry of Education of China this figure may have reached 650 thousand people by 2020. Therefore in the near perspective, recruiting students from China becomes one of the key factors in the export of educational services for Mordovia State University.

The University’s booth was attended by several hundred people. The greatest interest among Chinese applicants has been aroused by educational programmes in the field of art and design, management and economics, medicine, philology/linguistics. The exhibition was attended by the Director of the International Department of the RF Ministry of Education and Science N. R. Toivonen, which gave an opportunity to the exhibitors to discuss topical issues of development of international cooperation and to present new developments in the field of education.

The exhibition’s agenda also included a round table discussion devoted to the study of the Russian language, organising youth exchanges and use of IT in the educational process. Round table discussion entitled «Methods and techniques of teaching Russian as a foreign language for teachers of Russian in China» in the Russian Сulture Сentre in Beijing was moderated by the head of the Chair of Russian language and literature E. A. Nikolaeva.
