UK scholar Galin Tikhanov attends Mordovia State University to deliver a course of lectures on M.M. Bakhtin

Galin Tikhanov gave lectures in the framework of Bakhtin days on 12-13 September. Mr. Tikhanov holds PhD from Oxford University, Head of the Chair of Comparative Literature at Queen Mary University of London, an honorary President of the International Comparative Literature Association (ICLA), an honorary scientific consultant of the Academy of Social Sciences of China, a member of the executive committee of the Institute of World Literature at Harvard University, a member of the European Academy.

As it was stated by the Director of the M.M. Bakhtin Centre Natalia I. Voronina in her introductory speech, lectures, roundtables and webinars pertaining to Bakhtin days would be held at the University until December.

Mr. Tikhanov’s lectures opened this extensive programme. They were dedicated to the problem of «World Literature», how it is perceived by various scholars studying literature and M.M. Bakhtin contribution to this matter. The first lecture gathered professors, post-graduate students and Master’s degree students from the Faculty of Philology, the Institute of National and Folk Culture and the History and Sociology Institute. Mr. Tikhanov dwelt on the problem of «World Literature» as to how it was in Russian and Soviet tradition and evaluated highly the role of the University scientists who devoted their researches to the clarification of M.M. Bakhtin’s connection with these traditions.

The second lecture commenced at 10 a.m. next day at the Institute of National and Folk Culture. Topic of the lecture was «Debates around «World Literature»: voices of Central Europe and Russia».
