Foreign language department hosts international conference on issues of modern teaching methodology

December the 5th opened a nation-wide conference with international participation "The integrated approach to English language teaching for non-linguistic specialties". During three days the Faculty of Foreign Languages was the venue for the instructors of Russian universities and teachers of Saransk secondary schools who packed master classes and workshops on modern teaching methodology.

The conference put together students and teaching staff from N.P. Ogarov Mordovia State University, Samara State National Research University, Southern Federal University, Syktyvkar State University, Volga State University of Technology, Kazan Federal University, Nizhny Novgorod State Linguistic University, Nizhny Novgorod affiliated branch of the National research University "Higher school of Economics", Penza State University, teachers of English from local secondary schools.

The conference organisers were the Faculty of Foreign Languages, the National Association of Teachers of English in Russia (NATE), Mordovia English Language Teachers Association (MorELTA).

On behalf of the University management the conference participants were welcomed by the Vice-Rector for Academic Studies Alina Yu. Maslova.

<>The Plenary session of the conference featured the seminar by American expert in English teaching methodology for academic purposes Dr. Lizabeth England. All together Lizabeth offered a series of six seminars and workshops, devoted to the analysis of skills required for the job of English teacher in higher school and issues of professional development. In addition, special workshops for teachers of high schools were offered by American expert in applied linguistics Heather Mello and associate professor of the Chair of English for professional communication Olga G. Butaeva.
