International festival of cultures «Ogarev colouring»: through cultural lens

During 16 - 18 of November Mordovia State University was hosting the interregional festival of cultures «Ogarev colouring», which gathered representatives of Russia’s regions and different countries of the world. This event has become a tradition for National research Mordovia State University and this year it is its 5th anniversary.

The festival schedule was tight: round table discussions on topical issues covering international communication and cooperation, such as: «Problems of transformation of Russian language as a second native language into Russian as a foreign language», «Extremism as a global threat of modern society», «Causes and consequences of angling Russian history». Students and teaching staff from the University offered master-classes on folk arts and crafts. Institute of National and Folk Culture opened specially designated stations where everyone could learn wood carving, mold clay toys and dolls-averters, draw with henna, play the drum and dance lezghinka, belly-dance, perform African and Italian dances. International students studying at the University presented their best national traditions.

The marquee event of the festival was gala concert dedicated to the International day of students, which took place on 17 of November in the Republican Palace of Culture. The concert was organised by Mordovia State University in cooperation with the local State Committee for youth affairs.

The concert encapsulated creative performances by participants of the international festival «Ogarev colouring». Traditional national dances and songs were performed by current international students of Mordovia State University who came from Africa and Latin America, India, China, Serbia, Italy, Iraq, Sudan, Armenia, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan etc. Guests of the festival were foreign students from Mari State University, N.I. Lobachevsky Nizhny Novgorod State University, I.N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University and Penza State University.
