The opening ceremony of the World Winter Student Games 2019 will be televised to 60 countries of the world.

On March the 2nd Sports and Entertainment Centre "Platinum Arena Krasnoyarsk" will host the opening ceremony of the 29th World Winter Student Games (Universiade) 2019. The ceremony will be televised to more than 60 countries around the world.

The 29th World Winter Universiade 2019 in Krasnoyarsk is the first ever Student Winter Games that are held in Russia. During the tournament 76 sets of medals will be contested in 11 sports. These include biathlon, alpine skiing, ice hockey, curling, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, figure skating, short track, freestyle, ski orienteering and bandy, the last two are included in the Student Games programme for the first time. A group of students from Mordovia State University will take part in select competitions.

The opening ceremony will be devoted to Siberian history and Siberian cultural traditions. The preparation for the three-hour show took more than two years. Its scenario is kept secret.

The headliners of the show are famous pop-music stars as well as the four-time World champion in figure skating, Alexei Yagudin, the 2002 Olympic champion.

The director of the show is the famous ice dancer, the 2002 Olympic silver medalist, the 2002 World champion and now a prominent choreographer – Ilya Averbukh.

The opening ceremony will be televised to over 60 countries not mentioning the Internet audience. In Krasnoyarsk the show can be followed live on large LCDs in fan zones.
