Students of the Philology Faculty among winners of the international competition "A Word on a Deed»

Three students of Philology Faculty have gained the upper hand in the international essay contest «A Word on a Deed»:

  • Polina Sinenko, a 3rd-year student of the degree programme «Journalism»;
  • Olesya Artemieva, a 4th-year student of the degree programme «Philology» (track: National Philology (Russian language and literature)
  •  Daria Maiorova, a 3rd-year student of the degree programme «Philology» (track: National Philology (Russian language and literature)

The international essay contest "A Word on a Deed" was held under the aegis of the Institute of Philology and Journalism of the National Research Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod, the Autonomous Non-Commercial Organization «Megaproject», and the Presidential Grants Foundation. The competition got together students from Nizhny Novgorod and Kirov regions, the Republic of Mari El, the Republic of Mordovia and the Republic of Udmurtia, as well as representatives of the Russian-speaking community of Armenia, Moldova, Serbia, and Bulgaria.

The contest objective was to search for young people who are ready to take an active civic stance and to further it to society, ready to participate in projects based on civic initiative. The main tool for identifying civic-minded people and communities was methods of social journalism, the core being the writing of an essay (searching for a hero, collection and analysis of information, interviewing, editing). Description of examples of heros’ active good, analysis of the motivating component, ideas, project initiatives - all this serves the purpose of furthering the most popular initiatives to and across the society.
