CUBA — SARANSK: A JOURNEY TO KNOWLEDGE

03.03.2025

Two years ago, Marian Kamila Bermúdez Moya, a young girl fr om Cuba, came to Saransk to study at the Medical Institute of our university. Her dream is to become a doctor. In addition to her studies, she is passionate about singing. Her performances have been featured twice at the «Ogarev Coloret» Festival of National Cultures. She is also the only Cuban student at MRSU.

  • How did you learn about Mordovia State University?
— After finishing school, I spent a lot of time thinking about wh ere to continue my studies. I consulted friends and acquaintances and searched online for information. While exploring Russian universities, I came across many positive reviews about Mordovia State University. I applied to three universities in Russia and decided that I would choose the one that responded first. Mordovia State University was the first to reply, and now I am certain that I made the right choice.

  • Why did you choose the medical field?
— I have always admired the profession of a doctor. It involves constant interaction with people and a great responsibility for their health. In Cuba, there is a great need for skilled medical professionals.

As a child, I often observed doctors in local hospitals—how they communicated with patients, prescribed medicine, and provided care. When I arrived in Saransk, I immediately noticed that the same respectful attitude toward patients exists here. However, the climate was very different from what I was used to, and I initially fell ill with pneumonia. Fortunately, the doctors in Saransk treated me and I recovered quickly.
  • We heard that you also sing. Tell us about your passion for music

— I have been singing since I was a child. I started when I was six years old, and my family always encouraged me. I participated in school concerts and performances, and even now, I continue to sing whenever I have free time. I enjoy discovering new songs and selecting pieces to perform at different events. My friends often tell me that I appear very graceful and expressive on stage.

  • What song did you perform at the «Ogarev Colorit» Festival in January?
— I sang a song in Spanish about God and freedom. I was deeply touched by the audience’s reaction—they were so warm and supportive. Studying at Mordovia State University, I have come to appreciate the strong sense of community here. Students support one another, and international students have built close friendships with Russian students. We celebrate holidays together, creating an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere.
