Ogarev Mordovia State University has officially celebrated its 95th anniversary, bringing together generations of students, academics, staff, graduates, partners and international guests. The anniversary ceremony took place on October 1 at the Yaushev State Opera and Ballet Theatre, marking not only the university’s history but also 95 years of higher education in the Republic of Mordovia. The celebration brought together members of the university community and distinguished guests from the region, Russia and abroad.
Among the guests were Olga Petrova, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation; Artyom Zdunov, Head of the Republic of Mordovia; Vladimir Chibirkin, Chairman of the State Assembly of Mordovia; Mikhail Trofimov, Chief Federal Inspector for the Republic of Mordovia; Metropolitan Zinovy of Saransk and Mordovia, as well as representatives of industry, universities, partner organisations and international institutions.

The anniversary was a celebration of people as much as it was of history. Before the ceremony, guests could visit the exhibition «The Energy of Science. Young Scientists Are Changing the World», take photos in a special anniversary zone and enjoy a performance by the Chamber Orchestra of Mordovia. Models from the university’s Inenarmun Fashion Theatre also welcomed guests.
During the ceremony, university employees received state, federal and regional awards in recognition of their contribution to education, science and the development of the university.
The honours included a Presidential Letter of Appreciation, awards from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, and regional distinctions such as the Order of Glory of the Republic of Mordovia and the Medal for Services to the Republic of Mordovia.

Head of the Republic of Mordovia Artyom Zdunov emphasised the important role the university has played in the development of the region. He noted that the university has become one of the symbols of Mordovia and stressed the importance of cooperation between the university, government and business in addressing future challenges.
Acting Rector Larisa Balykova also highlighted the contribution of generations of university employees, students and graduates. Over 95 years, more than 190,000 people have graduated from Ogarev MRSU, building careers in Mordovia, across Russia and internationally.
The university’s history has also been shaped by outstanding scholars, including Mikhail Bakhtin, Nikolai Atyasov and Alexander Sukharev, whose academic legacy remains an important part of the university’s identity.

In her address, Deputy Minister Olga Petrova highlighted the university’s growing international profile. Today, international students account for more than 20% of the university’s student population, reflecting Ogarev MRSU’s strong connections with the global academic community.
She also praised the university’s academic staff for maintaining a high level of education and research and for contributing to the university’s participation in the federal Priority 2030 programme. For an international university community, this milestone is especially meaningful: students and staff from different countries have become an important part of the university’s everyday life and development.
The anniversary programme also offered a creative journey through the university’s history and the many cultures represented in the region.
As part of the theatrical opening, the Inenarmun Fashion Theatre presented 95 costumes representing different national traditions.
The programme also featured a graduate of the Institute of National Culture, Sergey Tsaryov, as well as video greetings from prominent Russian scientists, public figures, university students and international partners.
Among those sending their congratulations were Academician and Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Stepan Kalymykov, Hero of Russia and Ogarev MRSU law student David Malyikin, and the university’s international partners.
The evening concluded with a large concert featuring the Umarina State Song and Dance Ensemble, VARMA Ethno-Art Theatre, Zemlyaki group, Art-Vision Dance Theatre, Leine Folk Dance Ensemble and other performers.
ONE UNIVERSITY. MANY GENERATIONS. ONE FUTURE.
The 95th anniversary was a celebration of everything that makes Ogarev MRSU a university: its people, its academic traditions, its scientific achievements, its international community and its connection with Mordovia.
