Starting from May 14, 2026, by Order No. 10−01−08/70 of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Valery N. Falkov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Pediatrics, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Larisa Balykova, has been appointed Acting Rector of N. P. Ogarev Mordovia State University.
Prior to her appointment as Acting Rector, Larisa Alexandrovna Balykova served as Vice-Rector for Innovation in Biotechnology and Medicine at the University. She is an alumna of the Medical Faculty of N. P. Ogarev Mordovia State University. In 1992, she successfully defended her Candidate of Sciences dissertation, and in 1999 she defended her Doctor of Sciences dissertation on the topic «Metabolic Therapy of Cardiac Rhythm Disorders in Children.» In 2000, she was awarded the academic title of Professor.
For 22 years, Larisa Alexandrovna headed the Department of Pediatrics, and for 11 years she served as Director of the Medical Institute of N. P. Ogarev Mordovia State University. Since 2024, she has been working as Vice-Rector for Innovation in Biotechnology and Medicine at the University.
Since 2016, she has held the title of Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Since 2017, she has served as the Chief Pediatrician of the Volga Federal District. Larisa Alexandrovna is a physician of the highest qualification category.
She is a recognized Russian scientist. Her academic output includes more than 40 methodological publications, including 10 manuals and 3 textbooks approved by the Educational and Methodological Association for Medical and Pharmaceutical Education. The total number of scientific works with her participation is 870, of which 166 are indexed in international scientometric databases. Her Hirsch index is 19 (RSCI) and 6 (Scopus). She holds 7 patents for inventions and is the co-author of 10 monographs and 4 national clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases, as well as all-Russian clinical recommendations.
Larisa Alexandrovna Balykova is an Honored Scientist of the Republic of Mordovia and an Honored Doctor of the Republic of Mordovia. She has been awarded honorary certificates from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and the State Assembly of the Republic of Mordovia, is a laureate of the Ogarev Prize, and has been awarded the Order of N. I. Pirogov and the Medal of N. A. Semashko.
